Malvern Minerals New Novacite® Production Line Operational

Hot Springs, Arkansas – Malvern Minerals, a producer of microcrystalline silica flour for the coatings industry, has successfully installed new equipment that will serve as the primary Novacite® production line and increase production capacity four-fold.

This project has brought online a fluid bed dryer, mill, pulverizer, dust collecting system and associated transfer systems that can process four times more material in half of the time it took the previous system.  With this new Novacite® production line operational, five outdated pieces of equipment are now redundant and will be removed and retired.  The remaining operational mills, dryers, etc can continue to be used to produce Novacite® or dedicated to process another mineral for Malvern Minerals or third parties.

Brad Smith, COO, stated, “The operation of this new production line completes the largest investment in production capacity, flexibility, and reliability improvement in our company’s history.  Malvern Minerals’ ability to reliably produce increased quantities of Novacite® has never been greater than we have today.  And with 70+ years of mineral reserves, our customers are assured a reliable supply.”

Malvern Minerals Announces New Technical Sales Leader

Brian Neal brings Malvern Minerals 15 years of sales experience in various industries, most recently the health care and pharmaceutical industries.  His proactive nature and methodical approach to processes will serve Malvern Minerals’ customers well as he assumes leadership of marketing, sales, and customer support responsibilities.

Malvern Minerals Reliability Improvement Update

Hot Springs, Arkansas – Malvern Minerals, a producer of white silica powder for the coatings industry, has completed 20% of its Reliability Improvement Plan.  Once completed, Malvern Minerals will be able to fully utilize mill capacity which was tripled through capital investment made during 2006.

Improvements in the Classifier System have been realized over the last two months.  Additional investments in improvements to the Classifier System, the Transfer System, and spare parts to support the entire production process have been authorized.  The Packaging System and the Coating System have both operated in a reliable fashion as they are both relatively new.  All systems are benefiting from Malvern Minerals preventative maintenance schedules and practices which were initiated in 2006 and are expanding as the Reliability Improvement Program is implemented throughout 2007.

Brad Smith, President and COO, commented, “We are very pleased with the capacity and reliability improvements gained to date.  In January we produced almost 800,000 pounds of product, almost 15% of last year’s entire production.  While we tripled our mill capacity in 2006, our experience in January shows we are only operating at 2/3 of this new mill capacity, yet this is yielding a rate of production twice that of any of the prior three years.  We are quite confident that as the Reliability Improvement Plan progresses through 2007, we will be able to utilize more mill capacity and increase production rates as customer demand for our products increases.”

Malvern Minerals Capacity & Reliability Improvement Update

Hot Springs, Arkansas – Malvern Minerals, a producer of white silica powder for the coatings industry, announces the commence of operation of its fourth production mill.  The start of this fourth mill brings to completion a capacity improvement plan which has tripled production capacity over the last 12 months.

From 2001 through 2004, due to several equipment failures, poor maintenance planning, and lack of capital investment, Malvern Minerals production capacity was reduced to one active mill.  With only one mill, the company’s ability to supply its customers was limited to 30% of original capacity.  Starting late 2005, the company began refurbishing, replacing, and adding mill capacity.  This capacity improvement program reached completion December, 2006 with the installation of the fourth and final mill.  With the fourth mill in operation capacity to produce product has been restored to original production rates.

In addition, the reliability of mill operation has been improved with the institution of preventative maintenance schedules and practices.  The use of four mills instead of three helps limit the impact to production capacity when a mill must be taken off line for preventative maintenance.  Spare parts inventory has been increased to help minimize production downtime when mill maintenance must occur.

Brad Smith, President and COO, commented, “Now that capacity has been restored, full attention is being applied to the Classifier Systems and Transfer Systems.  We estimate reliability issues with these systems currently limit mill utilization to 2/3 of full capacity.  But even this limitation is a two-fold improvement over what Malvern Minerals has been able to provide our customers in each of the last three years.  We look forward to being able to provide our customers the quality product they demand in the increased quantities and delivery schedules they desire”.

Tony McAnly, Chairman and CEO, said, “These actions are consistent with Malvern Minerals strategic plan to increase production reliability and enhance customer satisfaction.  The capital investment made in 2006 is now realized with the doubling of our mill capacity.  When the capital improvements planned for 2007 are implemented the reliability gained in the Classifier Systems and Transfer Systems will allow Malvern Minerals to gain another 50% improvement in mill utilization – returning capacity and reliability to historic levels.

Malvern Minerals Announces Share Buyback and Reorganization

Hot Springs, Arkansas – Malvern Minerals, an excavator, processor, and supplier of white silica powder to the coatings industry, has offered to purchase the shares of stock of certain owner’s of record as of November 27, 2006.  The transaction must be completed by May 1, 2007.

In addition, Malvern Minerals announced a new division, Custom Blending and Coating (CBC), will begin operation in the first quarter of 2007.  CBC will provide toll treating, surface coating, and blending of Malvern Minerals’ and third party products.  CBC will inherit state-of-the art equipment as well as Malvern Minerals’ current customer base for these services.  The new division will focus its efforts on serving the customers’ increasing interest in and demand for these services.

In parallel with these actions, Malvern Minerals announces the sale and leaseback of certain real estate assets.  Financing assistance for this transaction was provided by Stephens Bank in Stephens, Arkansas.

Tony McAnly, Chairman and CEO, said, “These actions are consistent with Malvern Minerals strategic plan to increase production reliability and enhance customer satisfaction.  The real estate sale allows the company to generate capital for investment in spare parts and renovation of deteriorated plant equipment.  The capital investment made throughout 2006, and to be made in 2007, coupled with a reinvigorated preventative maintenance schedule ensures customers receive their orders within quoted lead times.

The creation of a separate CBC division helps us better focus on the unique needs of our blending and coating customers.  Providing a focused profit center with its own people and reliable equipment will drive improved performance for our customers and Malvern Minerals.”

Malvern Minerals Announces New CEO

Hot Springs, Arkansas – Malvern Minerals, an excavator, processor, and supplier of white silica powder to the coatings industry, is pleased to announce Tony McAnly has joined the corporation as Chairman and CEO.

Tony was retained by Malvern Minerals in March, 2006 to review the company’s operations and management and develop a strategic business plan for improving production reliability and enhancing customer satisfaction.  This plan has guided personnel replacements and capital investments during 2006.

Malvern Minerals Board of Directors has been pleased with the improvements in management processes and the noticeable improvement in production reliability seen to date.  To continue the improvement trend, the Board of Directors requested Tony join the corporation to provide continued leadership executing the strategic plan, help further develop management processes and personnel, and improve customer relationships.

Tony brings 25 years technical and executive leadership experience to Malvern Minerals.  His experience includes leadership positions of increasing responsibility for two Fortune 100 companies: GE and Lockheed Martin, as well as the founding, developing, and sale of Airborne Nacelle Services, an independent FAA Repair Station; the acquisition of Aerocell Structures, an FAA Repair Station; and leading the turnaround of Aerospace Technologies, an aviation component manufacturing company.
